NW BUSINESSES EMBARK ON TECHNOLOGY MISSION TO FINLAND

A group of the North West’s most promising technology companies is heading to Helsinki next week on a special investment mission led by Alliance Fund Managers and Merseyside ICT.
The event, sponsored by Liverpool law firm DLA Piper and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will allow businesses the opportunity to pitch to over 40 of Finland’s most active technology business angels, business angel syndicates and three of Europe’s leading venture capital organisations.
Director of Merseyside ICT Steve Smith said “This trip heralds a new phase of international cooperation that should lead to more syndicated investments as well the real potential of bringing innovative technology companies and high value jobs to the UK. “
Alliance Fund Managers and Merseyside ICT have established links with the Finish government’s venture capital arm Vera Venture. The event is designed to strengthen the relationship with a view to boosting opportunities for technology businesses in the North West and across Europe
Managing Director of AFM Mark Fuller said: “We manage funds totalling £141m. These have made a significant investment in exciting technology sector businesses with strong potential. Finland has a reputation as a world class centre for development of technology IP and this event is a chance for us to showcase the management and entrepreneurial talent we have in the region. It will also allow businesses and investors to make some important connections.”
The mission will culminate in a reception at the British Embassy sponsored by The Mersey Partnership where the guest list will include CEO’s of Finland’s most successful technology companies such as Nokia, TeliaSonera, Comptel and Nethawk.
