New Concept Gaming Scoops Award Hat Trick at Big Chip Awards
25th June 2009
AFM-backed New Concept Gaming scooped a hat trick of accolades at the recent Big Chip Awards – the North West’s annual awards for digital excellence.
The company’s jOG game controller won Best Application of Technology, Big Chip International Award for Innovation and the overall Grand Prix prize.
jOG is the ground breaking add-on for the Wii that lets you control your game character movement by jogging on the spot. Simply plug it in, clip it to your belt and you are ready to start playing your games in a new, exciting and active way. jOG is compatible with all existing video games that use the Nunchuk joystick to control game character movement. Keep the joystick pushed in the direction you want to go and start jogging to move your character in that direction. If you stand still - so does your character!
The business was backed by AFM to the tune of £700k in 2008 through the MSIF Liverpool Seed Fund and MSIF Venture Fund.
jOG is the brainchild of New Concept’s managing director Brendan Ludden. He set the business up in 2005 and now runs it with co directors Jaison George and Patrick Slaats. The company relocated from Swindon to Liverpool in 2008.
Dr Ludden said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised at a leading industry event such as the Big Chip Awards. Picking up three prizes at such a prestigious ceremony is a huge boost for the company. “
AFM Portfolio Manager, Janet Butler said: “We would like to pass on our congratulations to the team at New Concept - this is a fantastic achievement.
“The company has performed really well since our investment. Sales in the UK have been good and it has also received significant international interest, particularly from the US. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the business as it progresses.”
jOG is available through a wide range of retailers in the UK including Argos, Game, Toys’R’Us and Asda.
