Vitaflo Listed in Coveted Sunday Times Tech Track 100

30th September 2008

Vitaflo, the Liverpool-based nutritional products developer, has been listed in The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 sponsored by Microsoft.

The company was ranked 86th in the list which showcases Britain’s fastest growing private technology companies. The list is compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking company that ranks Britain’s top private companies by measuring their growth sales over the last three financial years.

Vitaflo has developed, and sells worldwide, an innovative range of nutritional products to manage metabolic diseases and disease-related malnutrition. It is one of the global market leaders in its industry and sells products to patients via the NHS and wholesalers in the UK, and through distributors overseas.

The company was formed in 1997 by the acquisition of a small Scottish company, which was relocated to its current site at Brunswick Dock in 1998. The business was founded by directors Tony Partington, Bill MacNab and Maura O’Donnell and employs 41 staff. From a turnover of £200,000 in 1998, Vitaflo has grown to its current £11 million turnover and continued growth in turnover, profits and staff is forecast.

In May of this year the company received a £16m refinancing package from Alliance Fund Managers through the MSIF Venture Fund and Clydesdale Bank plc – the sister of Yorkshire Bank.

Following on from this latest investment, Vitaflo has gone from strength-to-strength and is currently trading ahead of budget. New products continue to be developed and approved and some will be launched later this year. New international territories are continuously being opened up. The company has also appointed a new CEO Ken McLachlan who has considerable international experience and is driving the business forward alongside the existing management team.

CEO Ken McLachlan said: “I was delighted to join such a vibrant, dynamic and innovative company as Vitaflo and have the opportunity to contribute to the company’s future success and build upon its existing achievements. I’m really pleased that the hard work and efforts of all the team at Vitaflo have been appropriately recognised in the prestigious Tech Track 100.”

AFM portfolio director Jerry Mobbs who looks after MSIF’s interest in the business said: “Vitaflo is a world leader in its field and is continuing to develop and grow. We are delighted that the company’s has been acknowledged in this way. I am sure this national recognition will be a real boost to all the team there who have worked so hard to build up the business.”
