29th June 2009
Two senior directors at AFM-backed companies were recognised at the 2009 Daily Post Women of the Year Awards which took place on Friday (26th June).
Maura O’Donnell a director at leading nutritional products company Vitaflo was crowned overall Woman of the Year with over 2,100 votes from the public, whilst Anna Heyes of marketing agency Active Profile received the ‘Newcomer’ accolade.
Dietician Maura joined Vitaflo in 1997 after the company was formed following the acquisition of a small Scottish company, which was relocated to its current site at Brunswick Dock in 1998.
Vitaflo has developed, and sells worldwide, an innovative range of nutritional products to manage metabolic diseases and disease-related malnutrition. It is one of the global market leaders in its industry and sells products to patients via the NHS and wholesalers in the UK, and through distributors overseas.
The business has grown to its current £11 million turnover and continued growth in turnover, profits and staff is forecast.
In addition, the company was also recently listed in The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 when it was ranked 86th in the list which showcases Britain’s fastest growing private technology companies.
Mother-of-four Maura actively promotes charity causes. Vitaflo recently provided a boat ambulance to ferry patients to hospital across Lake Malawi and is helping to fund a school out there.
Speaking at the event she said: “It is a very special company, we do a lot of work with children with metabolic diseases. We work with hospitals like Alder Hey and Great Ormond Street.
“Because we work with really sick children all the time, we wanted to do something to help some of the most needy get the best they can out of life.”
Anna Heyes, MD of marketing company Active Profile adds her Daily Post Women of the Year ‘Newcomer’ Award to the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ accolade she scooped at the North West Women in Business Awards last year.
Based in the heart of Liverpool’s creative quarter in Rodney Street, Active Profile has developed a client base spanning a wide range of sectors across the UK.
In the past three and half years Active Profile has helped launch and grow companies, turned around the fortunes of not-for-profit organisations, and delivered flawless events and press campaigns.
Mark Fuller, Managing Director at AFM said: “Maura and Anna have grown fantastic businesses and we are delighted that they have been recognised at this prestigious event. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both of them for this achievement.”
